RED Day 2019 – The Hollywood Salvation Army Youth Center

RED Day (Renew, Energize and Donate) is an initiative dedicated to celebrating Keller Williams Realty’s year-round commitment to improving our local communities. Each year, on the second Thursday in May, tens of thousands of associates around the world participate in a wide range of projects, devoting their time to renewing and energizing aspects of the neighborhoods in which they serve.
RED Day initiatives run the gamut: From rebuilding homes, refurbishing local parks, giving to local food shelters, hosting blood drives, beautifying beaches and so much more. Projects are chosen by each individual market center based on a need they see within its community.
I’ve been at Keller Williams for almost 9 years now (crazy to think it’s been that long) and have participated in all of our yearly Red Days. In the past, our office has sponsored events such as building gardens for inner-city schools, holding food drives, sponsoring a pet adoption and donation drive for a local shelter, reading to underprivileged students, and this year we made 234 bagged lunches via #HashtagLunchbag for the Hollywood Salvation Army As an office, we decorated the lunch bags and wrote notecards of encouragement to whomever was receiving the food. This particular Salvation Army is also a group home for transitioning youth (18-24) who have just come out of the foster care system and have no place else to go. We were able to provide a meal or two to the people who flow through this shelter right off Hollywood Blvd. My coworker and I also had a few additional lunches which we hand-delivered to people downtown on the streets of Skid Row. Additionally, I purchchaed dozens of pairs of socks, toothbrushes, deodorants, and containers of toothpaste to donate to the Salvation Army. These are all items they need as well.
